Legends are plentiful in Hollywood, but The Dresden endures like few others. Whether you know it from the movie "Swingers," or you're stopping by for the first time, this spot has been welcoming celebrities, locals and tourists alike for the last 50-plus years. Imbued with the spirit of the great super clubs of the '50s, you'll find lunch and dinner a treat. Then there's the lounge, which immediately brings to mind the likes of Bobby Darin, Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra in their heyday. Immortalized in Tom Hank's film "That Thing You Do," here guests sip wine, martinis, and such cocktail classics as The Dresden's space-age margarita, "Blood and Sand." However, the focal point of this delightfully retro environment is the piano bar where Marty and Elaine have been entertaining Mon. - Sat. from 9 p.m. - 1:15 a.m. for the past 20 years. She plays the keyboard. He plays the upright bass and drums. And together they belt their hearts out, sometimes going for serious but more often than not, going for laughs a la the ultimate lounge act. Put it all together, and you've got a stylish setting, superb menu and vintage entertainment, plus The Dresden's nightly collection of colorful clientele. Still, there's one last bit of good news. The pricing is affordable, which means this true piece of Hollywood history is easily within reach of all comers.
